Hello – My name is Renee Lopez, founder of Charmed Life Music! I’m often asked why I started this company. I moved to Nashville in December of 1999 with dreams of writing music and landing a record deal. Essentially following in my father’s footsteps singing country music. My big break came in the spring of 2002 when I landed a recording contract with RCA Nashville. It seemed my dreams, and everything I'd been working towards, were coming true. In the midst of landing my record deal, I was also planning my wedding and dreaming of my "special day.”
As my wedding drew closer, I was on the search for the perfect wedding songs. As a songwriter myself, I didn't want to use the same songs "everyone else” was playing, and quite frankly, wanted something different. Something personal that would express all my emotions and feelings for the special people in my life. When I realized I wasn't going to find what I was searching for, I decided to write some of them myself. It ended up that our wedding was featured on TLC's “The Wedding Story,” a day neither of us will forget! I wrote a special song for my husband Tom (which was featured on the show) called Glass Slippers, which is included on Volume One of our new wedding CD.
As the year passed and my record deal progressed, it seemed that writing positive love songs that celebrated my life and what I believed in was a common and natural theme. After all, I had a lot to celebrate. At the time however, that "theme" was in direct conflict with what my label wanted me to sing and convey. This was a real crossroads, because while I'd waited and worked my whole life for this moment, it seemed I was going to have to choose. Choose to continue to be true to myself and trust God would take care of the rest, or settle for who the record label wanted me to be. In the end, while my experience with RCA was something I will never forget, I parted ways with the label. A new chapter in my life began…what I believe was meant to be all along.
I spent the next year trying to figure out where my place in the music business would be. After some much needed soul searching and a couple failed showcase attempts to try for another deal, the answer came. I approached my husband expressing my interest in writing wedding music. After all, I had been asked to sing many of my songs at the weddings of family members and friends, and had received numerous requests for the use of my music. My gut told me these couldn’t be the only brides out there looking for that “perfect song.” My husband Tom actually took it one step further as we were preparing for the birth of our first child. Start our own music label that would release projects that celebrate the "important moments" in people's lives – weddings, births, anniversaries, funerals and much more. It was such an "Oprah light bulb moment,” that I felt like God himself was screaming in my ears....DO THIS!
For the past two years, I have been writing and recording the songs that would complete Volume One of our first project – Wedding Memories in Song. I would also become a mother to now 2 year old old Rosemary and become inspired to start working on a Children's Lullaby and Expectant Mother CD. Once Tom and I made the decision to work together, which only seemed natural given his extensive background in sales and marketing, we couldn't move fast enough to get this company off the ground. All going back to the saying “If you stand still and listen, you will hear him.” Well, I had finally "heard him" and more than anything, was excited to finally be able to share my music and gifts with the world.
In the end, the main inspiration for this company was, and still is, the love I have for my husband and family. If it weren't for the gifts they share with me everyday, I would have never been inspired to write these songs which evolved into Charmed Life Music. I consider it a blessing to be able to stay home and raise our daughter, while writing and running a business that I’m truly passionate about. I hope the music you hear touches your heart, blesses your life the way it has mine and helps celebrate the people you love most. Most of all - I wish you all a charmed life!
